My mother was born in Brooklyn, but we hadn't gotten up to the founding of America yet so I chose Chartres Cathedral despite the fact that I was failing French and I'd vowed to hate everything from that le la les country. I just really liked the stories in the stained glass.

Chartres Cathedral, Cathedral of Glass
By Tracy A. White

"...The high windows, with the top of the triforium, in the nave, the chorus and the transept deploy a procession of saints and the holy ones, the glance already turned towards eternity; the low windows of the sides and the déambulatoire, the range of the glance of each one, make it possible to read accounts drawn from the Bible (Noah, Joseph, the Good Samaritan, the Prodigal son...)"
