When I was approaching that part of life, my father gave a piece of advice I would like to share with all students out there:

Nothing is more important than sleep. Ever. Any time you gain by not sleeping is lost many times over by messing up your head.

I would like to add: This is true regardless of any pills you may take.

As I'm typing this at 1 am, I guess I should be heeding my own advice. Good Night.

Hi, and thanks for the comic. I totally know what your going through. This year coming up will be my sophmore year, and let me tell you, the end of freshman year was one of the most grueling experiences of my life. I can remember staying up until 3:00 and 4:00 in the morning trying to finish review sheets, term papers, studying, you name it. I can remember going to school having gotten 45 minutes of sleep and telling everyone 'I'm okay, I'm not tired' and then falling asleep in class. My advice to everyone is, time management. Make a schedule and stick to it. Of course I tell myself this every year, and have I done it successfully ever? Not once, but all you can do is keep on trying.

Yeah, High School can be -extremely- stressing. It all depends on how you deal with it, how you wake up in the morning really. I'm a sophmore now, and things are starting out really busy. I heard this is your most busy year because you have bigger expectations and you've got the bothersome freshman's tagging along everywhere, while on top of that worrying about if you'll get your credits, and what you need to graduate. Honestly, my freshman year wasn't the easiest, so they tell me. I'm one of those 'goody-two-shoes' i guess you could say, and i stay on top of the game. Well towards the end of first semester i got -very- sick. Almost like mono (if you've ever had it, it's sucks bad. you're bed ridden, and completely weak). Like you, i took sleeping pills, because for a reason not explained most highschoolers tend to get insomina. But after i recovered, learned how to cope with no sleep, and had fun with my friends and extracurricular activities, it was all better. So some advice? Be nice in class, especially to your peers. Because i garuntee, what goes around comes around. Oh, and talk just the right amount, and always wake up on the right side of the bed. Because one family member, or one prick with a hurtfull comment can ruin a whole day, week, or even your whole year. So look on the bright side of things, and it certainly helps to have a friend with you along the way.

Hi! I really appreciate your comic. I used to frequently worry about grades (I still do, sometimes), and it really stresses me how people always seem to want one to 'do better.' As long as you try your best, it's okay.

Thanks for making the comic; I know I'm not alone.

tracy,

thank you for another important and wonderful piece. it hits really close to home-- i've gotten sick and panicked during exams a couple of times-- usually timed written essays-- a self fulfilling prophesy that i know i'm not good at them.

plus, i'm going to a liberal arts college where i'm at a constantly too high stress level. it's part of my nature, but i'd also really like to take care of it somehow. because it seems no matter how many times i say, 'it's not as bad as u think', it doesn't really work.

perhaps i should learn meditation. or exercise is definitely a good call. since i have a paper due 8:30 AM tomorrow, it seems like every minute i should be working towards finishing it.

Thank you. It is good to know I am not alone. Thank you for sharing your painful life lessons. Thank you more for sharing ways to cope.

Yuck.

I faced the pressure only when my body said 'Enough'. I am learning better ways. I have to.

I guess my advice would be for those who believe that they can continually push themselves to the limits and beyond: You have to be good to yourself. You are either your best friend or your worse enemy. You choose.

Thank you again, Tracy.

Hi. I'm 24 now but I remember my 18's and 19's during some hateful years in Industrial Engeneering...I suffered from anxiety and ulcera and a complete set of psicosomatic symptoms, even realising that they were stress caused, I could'nt stop them. Last summer my girlfriend also left me during exams and i was completely dumped and smoked... but somehow I found the strengh to carry on and deal with stress, just trying to focus on how good my life was even in those moments of academic/sentimental pain.
I don't have a magic tip for fighting stress, but i'm sure that the same energy inside us that produces pain can produce healing. Search within ourselves is an incredibly powerful tool, (and i'm not a religious/new age guy). Call it Zen on whatever but everyone of us has to deal with our fear sometime during life...and finally, I think you Tracy have made a beautiful and magical work turning your suffering into a piece of art that everyone of us can enjoy and admire.

Thanks for your stories.

I realllly enjoyed the story. I can definitely relate. I remember doing something similar in college. I tried a lethal dose of 3 cups of 16 oz black coffee and two or three vivarin caffene pills. Needless to say, when all this caffene hit my system, I was vibrating more than a hummingbird on a tuning fork in an earthquake. These days I use prayer, tai chi, and kickboxing to fight off the stress monster.

What a hard lesson - taking those diet pill just makes you sick. Nice thing about growing up is that we learn from our mistakes and we know our limits. Keep up the great work here Tracy!

i have a problem with pressure. i look to it and destroy it. unfortunately this means my grades are crap, as i feel the only way to alleviate the immense pressure of school is to run away from it. it works but never without traces of guilt and fear. i get things done that i need to get done, though, like making music or talking to someone who's really important to me. so i guess i'm a happier person, just sick and sleep-deprived.

I read ur comic I thought it was a good representation on how ppl feel in times of stress. Right now I'm on medicine for stress and I know EXACTLY what it feels like to be overwhelmed by things out of your reach. I'm sorry you felt so out of control, but I guess that's just the way things are sometimes, but through time God will help on ur way to success and those

little things will pass by u as nothing

hey, i really liked that comic. i'm a sophomore right now and things are the exact opposite with me. i care about my grades and i have absolutely no pressure. yeah i feel bad when my mom sees my grades and she gives me a lecture but i know i will be fine so i just dont try as hard as i could. my friend took pills last year she ended up in the hospital too. she had to have her stomach pumped. she could have died and i think people like that are stupid {no offense} but after that she turned into a straight a student. thats good and all i guess but school just doesnt seem that important to me. and i dont know why. oh well.

My best friend died from over dosing on diet pills. Whatever you do don't allow pressure to push you that far. Talk to your siblings and guardians

THAT COMIC WAS THE BOMB. EVERYTHING IN IT R THINGS THAT HAPPEN IN THE REAL WORLD.
WHEN I'M UNDER PRESSURE I:

I suppose one way to look at stress is to know that it is something you produce. In events of stress, I find myself doing something that can amaze, humiliate, or stagnate myself. I am a stress addict, i.e. procrastinator, because I wait to the end, just to 'trip out.' Depending how you live your life stress will play a different role each time. Often you will find it either exhilarating, or your deepest fear.

Consequences that happen to you, in regards to how you deal with stress, is the only important thing. Do things because you will benefit from it, not you family, friends, or other significants. Don't do things to please others, for '[you] only fail when [you] are trying to please someone else. (Bill Cosby)'

I know that when I pass stressful times it life, my experiences will ALWAYS help me with the rest of my life because they have values, morals, and knowledge that I can learn and utilized for the better of my existance. Reflect, not regret, is the positive way to look at stressful times. That is a message that I can see from your pressure comic.

Wheew, I hope that everyone can live more positively.

Hi Tracy-
How are ya? I loved your comic. I know what you felt. If you ever get in the same situation,
what I do is this:
1) Read the chapter from the textbook
2) Practice questions or equations from the book
3) Practice with my mom
4) Write notes
5) Study a little more and do great!
Hope this helps, thanks. -Allison
P.S. I copied your steps, they look helpful

you poor girl! you know that you got totally out of it cause of the drugs you were taking, right? sleep won't do that much to you alone. you could try yoga. its really good to loosen tight muscles and relax you. and hey, you don't need good grades with that talent! ;)

hey tracy!! my name is luci. ur comic was really cool! but all the choices made in it were the wrong choices but i'm sure that's evident. anyway, keep making comics that touch issues some people don't usually talk about sometimes. i think it's cool. cuz then other people will learn how to deal with certain situations by seeing what the wrong choices are and hopefully they will make the right ones. all righty then.....i'll talk to ya some other

Dear Tracy,
Your comic was very good. I think that you should post that comic any where you can becuase alot of girls and guys go through this and if they see they are not alone and that tere are other ways to deal with stress mabey it will help them to live a little easier. I am a person who stresses alot becuase i'm so busy. I'm in the 11th grade and I participate in alot of activitys. It's hard for me to be dedicated and keep my grades up. One of the things that help me relive stress is putting on my favorite music and dancing for a couple of hours or calling my best friend up. Thanks for putting up a subject i can relate to.

hi my name is rachel and i really enjoyed your comic about pressure. i go through similar kinds of pressures because the only way i am going to college is through a scholarship so i have to keep my greades up. its tough,
especially right before finals. plus i have lots of other sources of stress, being the oldest and having to watch out for my hellacious siblings and the baby is one. plus i have to do most of the house work and i have to get a job. reading your comic really reminded me that i am not the only one who has to put up with stress and has shown me a way to deal with it, as well as wats NOT to deal with it. thank you.

I really liked the comic because it was the first time that I' ve seen a documentary from the point of view of the person who is under the pressure. Usually there are movies about that type of pressure but from the parents point of view. Thank you for submitting the comic for others to see. I now understand what people go through.

Wow, I get stressed a lot too, but not because of bad grades, good ones. You might get an A in the beginning of the year, and then a B next trimester, and your parents and teachers will start telling you that you should have done better than your best. I hate it, so instead of having any fun, I cram every day. I took those caffine pills once, but i had the whole box. I hurt myself. But now I am taking help classes, like meditating, and art classes where i
can just let everything go on paper, and there are no grades!

hi, so anywayz I liked the comic because it was realistic and not cheasy. It shows you how people deal with things and how they realize right from wrong. It is good. I guess thats all I have to say about it.
